30 for 30 day six

sun(shine and gelato)day!
the sun was beautiful today but the breeze was icy, so i just sat in the sun all day eating gelato :)

sunnies (cotton on), white blouse (old work), cossie top (thrifted), shorts and thongs (hand-me-down).

i've been playing around with the special effects on my camera, can you tell? haha. i think it makes the photos more interesting! and it's fun to play with all the goofy effects.

30 for 30 day four

oh my gosh. day four already.
i was actually pretty happy with myself for juggling todays outfit the way i did (can you see how modest i am?). but seriously, i went to a wedding, and then went straight to work, and managed to style an outfit in a way that i only had to change one item to make it kid friendly.

blouse, thick stockings and shoes (mum's 2nd hand store), beige singlet and denim shorts (old work, blah), pocket watch necklace (tree of life), bangle (thrift store), amazing jade ring that you can't really see but there will be a post about soon (mum's 2nd hand store).

and for work, i just swapped the silk blouse for a plain comfy tee (and took off my jewelery).

crafty love!

two of my close friends are getting married tomorrow! i am so excited for them to be celebrating the love and commitment that i know they already share.
and they're actually doing it in a way that is so incredibly eco friendly in terms of weddings that i'm pretty sure it'd be hard to beat. they aren't having much of a ceremony to speak of. in fact, they sent out the invites via text message to the small group who are coming, they are both wearing clothes that they already own that have mutual significance in their relationship, and they are skipping the reception entirely! talk about the minimalist approach!
to continue with the intimate love theme, i decided to show my love for both of them, and my happiness about them sharing their love together, in a personal way. i made their card :) the best bit is that the majority of the materials i used were either friend throw aways, mum finds from her 2nd hand store, or things i'd hoarded from my op shopping excursions.

basically, i folded some heavy duty art paper to make a card sized piece, cut it off, and folded it in half to make the card itself. then i lightly sketched on my design in lead pencil. using water colour paints, i painted a stylised version of a black belt (odd design for a wedding card i know, but it has a lot of significance for these two), and then painted their initials in gold at the ends of the tied belt. to finish i wrote a short poem on the inside of the card that i think both of my friends will love :)
and voila! a totally unique, personalised card. so simple and quick, yet i know that they are both totally going to love it.

p.s. they LOVED it!!!! it even brought on another round of happy tears! (even i was crying, i love weddings!)

p.p.s. THEY'RE GOING TO FRAME IT!!! oh my goodness! i feel so honoured!

happy first day of spring!

30 for 30 day three

jacket and singlet (my old work- blergh), short shorts (best friend hand-me-down), scarf and moccasins (mums 2nd hand store)

today it has finally hit a temperature which allowed for my beloved short shorts to live in the sun again! pity that my poor little pins haven't seen any of the golden rays all winter! this situation will be rectified soon, i assure you.
it was all about working with the weather today. i wanted to remain comfortable during the middle of the day when it was nice and warm, but be able to layer to keep warm as the sun went down and i was still in a classroom at uni. so i compromised. short shorts as a salute to the first day of spring, but a 3/4 jacket, scarf and loafers/moccasins to keep my toes toasty. worked a treat too, i was comfortable all day, inside and out, by taking on and off bits and pieces depending on the temperature.
